Control is available to students and educators for use in the classroom.
Distributing Control into classrooms is a high priority because the movie is about the terrible price young people pay for mass incarceration. If you are a teacher and want to discuss how the film can be integrated into a curiculuum, please get in touch.
Our idea is to bring this movie to where people already are, classrooms. For example, we have built a relationship with the New York Department of Probation’s Young Men’s Initiative (YMI), a program for at-risk youth. We distributed dvd’s to YMI mentors who screened the movie in their groups. YMI is an example of an audience we would love to build around the film, but also one that would be very difficult to bring to a traditional documentary screening space.
One Mentor wrote about the film:
Going back and forth to court is not a way of life and the cycle of incarceration can be broken when you decide to “CONTROL” your own destiny and not allow others to control it for you. We thought it was an eye opener for many youth.
